In their 18th multi-state lawsuit, Dem AGs discuss the importance of stopping the Trump administration from irreversible economic damage
WASHINGTON, DC – Last week, a group of Democratic attorneys general sued the Trump administration over the implementation of unlawful tariffs, marking their 18th multi-state lawsuit against the administration.
The lawsuit asserts Trump illegally imposed a tax hike on the American people, abusing powers that are explicitly reserved for Congress. Over the weekend, Democratic AGs took to TV to discuss the lawsuit and reinforce their commitment to protecting all Americans from the Trump administration’s harmful policy decisions.

Oregon AG Dan Rayfield on NewsNation:
- “This is Trump attacking American consumers.”
- “What I know factually is that we have an economist here in Oregon that shows that $3,800 is going to be the price increase every year for normal household purchases that we make. And I don’t know a lot of families that can afford that.”
- “So I welcome Trump to have conversations about trade deals, but you also got to do it legally. And right now he doesn’t have the authority and he’s misusing emergency powers to try and creatively do this because he wants to skirt Congress’s safeguards that they put in place for our tariffs.”

Delaware AG Kathy Jennings on Alex Witt Reports:
- “Democratic attorneys general across the country have banded together to file many lawsuits against President Trump when he breaks the law and harms the people we serve in our states. That’s exactly what this lawsuit is doing. Tariffs are nothing more than attacks on consumers, and they hit the people who can afford them the least the most.”
- “In Delaware, we have an agricultural economy […] And we’re going to see that impact across our agricultural farms and producers.”
- “We’re going to see empty grocery shelves. We’re going to see supplies not coming into our state that are needed to build our businesses and we are not going to be able to export the goods that we produce here. I can’t imagine a more profound impact on consumers than what’s about to happen.”

Nevada AG Aaron Ford on The Jonathan Capehart Show:
- “In fact, the experts are saying the tariffs could impose $985 million in new costs on Nevada businesses based on the rate of imported goods into the server state. These new expenses, as we all know, are going to be passed down to the Nevada consumers.”
- “And again, when these actions that he’s taken lead to negative consequences for Nevadans and when he is acting unlawfully, we’re going to show up in court. And that’s exactly what we’re doing right now.”
