2019 CAMPAIGN UPDATE

• LOUISIANA: The Democratic Attorneys General Association released new polling of Louisiana voters, which finds Louisiana voters moving away from Republican incumbent Jeff Landry and towards Democrat Ike Jackson after learning about the candidates and Landry’s participation in the GOP-led lawsuit to strip health care from millions of Americans including nearly 500,000 Louisianans. The poll results show a 33-point swing. “Jeff Landry is in trouble and he has taken his position as Attorney General for granted instead of listening to the people of Louisiana,” said Sean Rankin, Executive Director of the Democratic Attorneys General Association. “This poll shows us that when voters are reminded about what Jeff Landry is doing on issues that matter like health care, they are quick to abandon Landry.” DAGA’s full press release is here and the polling memo is here!
• MISSISSIPPI: DAGA-endorsed Mississippi AG candidate Jennifer Riley Collins talked to Daniel Nichanian at The Appeal for a wide-ranging Q&A on all things criminal justice reform and what she would prioritize in that space as the next Attorney General of Mississippi. “My interest does not change. My interest has always been in protecting and defending the Constitution of the United States, protecting and defending the constitutional rights of all its citizens,” Jennifer Riley Collins told The Appeal. DEM AGs ON CAMPUS
This Saturday, DAGA Co-Chair Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum and New York AG Tish James spoke to a room full of College Democrats from across the country at their annual summer convention. “I did what any sensible woman would: I reached out to other women for advice and support,” AG Rosenblum told the Women’s Empowerment luncheon crowd. AG James shared some words of wisdom as well saying, “There will be dark nights. There will be times when you cry and that’s ok. You got to put that behind you, our nation needs you. Because when the night is the darkest, that’s when the stars shine the brightest. And I’m looking at a whole lot of stars right now.” Afterwards, DAGA endorsed candidate for Mississippi AG, Jennifer Riley Collins, joined the AGs for a panel about the role Democratic AGs play in protecting our democracy against the barrage of attacks from the Trump Administration.

AG FORD KEEPS CAMPAIGN PROMISES
A Las Vegas Sun editorial applauded Nevada AG Aaron Ford for his dedication to protecting Nevada families and communities against the Federal Government’s cruel and discriminatory actions – stepping in when other elected officials refused to take action. The editorial begins, “Before he began his term as Nevada attorney general in January, Aaron Ford established a simple test to determine whether the state should go to court against the federal government. If an action hurt Nevada families, he said, he’d sue. TONG TACKLES IMMIGRATION
In the first four days of September, Connecticut AG William Tong tackled three different immigration-related cases, demanding answers from the Trump administration and objecting to its treatment of immigrants. “The Trump administration has waged a cruel, pointless and very damaging war against immigrant families to gin up his xenophobic supporters and to distract from Trump’s failing record at home and abroad,” AG Tong said. “State attorneys general are in courts across the country defending the constitution and protecting families from the devastating consequences of these hateful policies. When children are ripped from their parents, severely ill patients are callously deported to their deaths, and Connecticut’s own laws are ignored, I will not hesitate to fight back.” For a full recap, check out this CT Mirror story here.
