HEALTH CARE IS ON THE BALLOT
In a joint memo, the national Democratic Party Committees (DNC, DSCC, DCCC, DGA, DAGA and DLCC) stood together and outlined precisely why Health Care is the top – and winning – issue for candidates up and down the ballot during the 2020 election cycle. The leaders of the six national committees said, “[v]oters know that Democrats are the party of health care. We’re going to keep reminding them of that through November.” Republican AGs and the Trump administration are in the U.S. Supreme Court right now fighting to repeal the Affordable Care (ACA), a move that would eliminate health care for 20 million people and end protections for 133+ million who have a pre-existing condition. Every Republican AG up for re-election is on the ACA repeal case and Republican candidates in Montana, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania also oppose the landmark health care law. DAGA will continue to pressure Republican AGs and their candidates on their anti-health care actions and remind voters about their efforts to eliminate health care for millions across the country. WIN IN OREGON
On Tuesday, Oregon held its vote-by-mail only primary – a practice the state has had in place for over 20 years. DAGA Co-Chair Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum, running unopposed, received more than 430,000 votes – beating her performance in the 2016 primary. DAGA Executive Director Sean Rankin said this following the primary results, “I know that Attorney General Rosenblum will continue to work on behalf the people of Oregon when re-elected this Fall and concurrently provide leadership nationally against a reckless, fumbling, and dangerous Trump administration.” Read the full statement on AG Rosenblum’s victory and her clear path to re-election this November here!

GOP IN(DIANA) HOT WATER

• On Monday, the Indiana State Supreme Court denied the Governor’s request for additional guidance on whether he could appoint a new Attorney General given Republican AG Curtis Hill’s 30-day law license suspension. Monday’s decision means that AG Hill will be able to return to his role as the state’s Attorney General at the conclusion of his license’s suspension for sexual misconduct allegations, on the day before the Republican State Convention.
• RAGA has yet to say a word about Hill’s misconduct; however, they continue to financially-back him.
• The decision also led yet another GOP primary challenger, former Congressman Todd Rokita to jump into the Republican AG primary.
• As a reminder, Democratic AG candidates continue to outraise Republican AG candidates, indicating that Indiana is a prime opportunity for Democrats to flip the seat in November. More on the state of the AG race here!

FIGHTING FOR CONSUMERS
On Tuesday, Democratic AGs in California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington, along with a coalition of 33 state AGs, announced a multistate settlement with Santander Consumer USA, Inc. The settlement, which includes over $550 million in nationwide relief for consumers, resolves allegations that the company violated state consumer protection laws by preying on certain borrowers and placing them into auto loans that carried an unacceptably high probability of default. “Santander profited by approving high-cost loans to disadvantaged auto buyers who were doomed from the start. These predatory loan practices have hurt countless families who are being hit hard by today’s economic climate,” said California AG Xavier Becerra.

SOME PAWSITIVE NEWS
Last year, a coalition of 20 Democratic AGs filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration’s proposal to weaken protections for endangered species. The Trump Administration’s motion to toss the case for lack of jurisdiction was denied by a federal judge this week – allowing the lawsuit by the Democratic AG coalition to proceed.
