WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released a new video in collaboration with One Vote At A Time to underscore the importance of electing Democratic Attorneys General and the crucial role state leaders play in keeping our communities safe. The video comes ahead of the full Senate vote on the confirmation Monday for arch-conservative Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the U.S. Supreme Court. The video features young artists speaking about issues they care about like climate change, education, health care, criminal justice reform, reproductive rights, and immigration—all critical issues for voters this November. DAGA Co-Chair Massachusetts AG Maura Healey, Connecticut AG William Tong, Minnesota AG Keith Ellison, and Colorado AG Phil Weiser are the Democratic AGs featured in the piece, affirming the dedication of the Dem AG team to fighting for justice, equity, and fairness.
“Democratic Attorneys General fight every day to ensure that this country lives up to its promise,” One Vote At A Time Co-Founder Sarah Ullman. “From health care, to reproductive rights, and environmental justice, their work (and their wins!) make our lives better and our future brighter. We couldn’t be prouder to support the Democratic Attorneys General Association with this video!”
One Vote At A Time is a team of female filmmakers dedicated to the eradication of gun violence and supporting candidates who are committed to taking action to prevent gun violence. Since its founding, One Vote has served 387 campaigns in 18 states across the country with in-kind campaign ads including state AGs in Colorado, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The video with DAGA is the first-time the organization has ever supported a political committee.
“Democratic Attorneys General have been leading every major fight to protect people during a dangerous, and discriminatory Trump presidency,” said DAGA Co-Chair Massachusetts AG Maura Healey. “Since day one, from Trump’s hateful Muslim travel ban to the victory for voting rights just last week, Democratic AGs are stepping up and leading the way.”
Since 2016, Democratic AGs have been the most effective leaders in the country on the frontlines of the fight against the dangerous policies coming out of the Trump administration. Democratic AGs have filed more than 100 lawsuits against the Trump administration and so far, they have had an 80% success rate in court. Together, they have taken more than 300 actions to protect the environment. Nationally recognized as the most effective way for Democrats to fight the Trump agenda, Democratic AGs continue to serve as the strongest check and balance in our democracy, holding the Administration, corporations, and all institutions legally accountable to the people of their states.
“When politicians try to hurt the people they serve, Democratic Attorneys General are there to fight for you,” said Minnesota AG Keith Ellison. “As the people’s lawyers, we have your back in the courtroom and tackle real injustices people face every day. If you want to have the most impact with your vote this year, vote for a Democratic Attorney General.”
“When cruelty seems like their point, we blaze a trail for your rights,” said Connecticut AG William Tong. “We are the legal muscle ready to defend your shot at the American dream. We’re in this together. That’s how we’re going to get through this: together.”
The video closes with a focus on the urgency around electing Democratic Attorneys General, reminding viewers if they care about the issues depicted in the video, they care about electing Democratic Attorneys General who will fight for them. There are ten state AG races this year, including five incumbent Democratic Attorneys General seeking re-election and five states DAGA is working hard to flip back to blue – including two races rated toss up by Cook Political Report.
“If your rights are in danger, Democratic Attorneys General fight for you, and we win,” said Colorado AG Phil Weiser. “Electing us means you have an ally in combating the growing climate and health care crisis facing this country; electing us means the people of your state have the best lawyer possible on your side.”
