VT AG Race Update: DAGA Applauds Vermont AG TJ Donovan on Commanding Re-Election Victory

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement from Executive Director Sean Rankin congratulating Vermont AG TJ Donovan on a successful re-election tonight.

During his time in office, AG Donovan has gained the trust of Vermont voters as a true progressive leader who stands up for the people no matter how big the fight. AG Donovan’s passion and perseverance for justice are exactly why he was successful this election, and why he will be a commanding leader for Vermonters in the future.”

“AG Donovan continues to demonstrate why electing Democratic AGs is crucial to moving our country in the right direction, especially on issues like criminal justice reform, environmental justice, and health care. As part of DAGA’s Incumbency Protection Program, the committee invested in both Donovan’s re-election campaign and the Vermont Democratic Party to help provide key resources to guarantee a successful election night.

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND

  • AG Donovan is a national leader on the issue of criminal justice reform.
    • He championed bail reform legislation that was signed into law in 2019 to address inequality and undue hardship prevalent in the criminal justice system.
    • He developed the Rapid Intervention Community Court (RICC), which is available to non-violent offenders and provides a path to address mental health or addiction.
  • AG Donovan is part of the Democratic AG coalition defending the Affordable Care Act against the Republican AG ACA Repeal lawsuit slated to be heard by the U.S. Supreme Court next week.
  • In 2018, AG Donovan won re-election with 67 percent of the vote, receiving 100,000+ more votes than his opponent.
