November 17, 2020
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement from Executive Director Sean Rankin congratulating North Carolina AG Josh Stein on a successful re-election in the most competitive AG race in the country. AG Stein faced RAGA-backed Republican AG nominee Jim O’Neill. Going into the cycle, North Carolina was seen as the number one pick-up opportunity for Republicans.
Statement from Sean Rankin, Executive Director of the Democratic Attorneys General Association
“Congratulations to North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein and his campaign on this incredible re-election. This was a hard-fought race won by Josh Stein’s leadership, a disciplined campaign, and smart investments. RAGA spent millions on Jim O’Neill, a candidate who let RAGA carry his campaign by spreading hysterical lies attempting to attack Josh Stein’s strong track record on public safety and fighting for the people. It didn’t stick.”
“From fighting to defend access to affordable health care and holding the opioid industry accountable to protecting North Carolina’s coast and civil rights, AG Stein will continue his unwavering public service for the people of North Carolina.”
“With so much on the line for North Carolinians, they knew they needed a true people’s lawyer and that’s exactly why they re-elected Josh Stein. As AG, Josh Stein has, and will always, put North Carolina families and communities first. We look forward to his continued leadership in the Tarheel state.”
As part of DAGA’s Incumbency Protection Program, the committee invested nearly $1.6 Million to coordinated-campaign efforts supporting Democratic candidates for North Carolina Council of State positions. Additionally, DAGA People’s Lawyer Project North Carolina, an independent organization backed by DAGA, invested more than $4.2 Million to power key spending on television ads, digital ads, polling, and message testing. DAGA also advocated for other strategic partners and allies to invest in down ballot races including in North Carolina.
