Dem AGs Support Local Law Enforcement and First Responders – but GOP AGs Opposed Local Funding

Washington, DC — Over the past year, the Biden-Harris Administration has delivered $350 billion in the American Rescue Plan for our states and communities, and Democratic Attorneys General have worked alongside the administration to fight violent crime as part of this plan. Despite this funding going directly to police officers, Republican Attorneys General tried to stop it, and actively fought against it. Democratic Attorneys General want to fund the police – while Republican Attorneys General tried to block our law enforcement from getting the resources they need.

“Democratic Attorneys General are proud to work alongside the Biden-Harris administration to fight violent crime. Since its passage, the American Rescue Plan has helped support our communities by funding local law enforcement and our first responders. As Democratic AGs, one of our top priorities is keeping our neighborhoods safe, and it’s with the Biden-Harris administration’s American Rescue Plan that we have had the support from the White House to do just that. On the other hand, Republican Attorneys General actively fought to block the American Rescue Plan, attempting to deny our police officers from ever seeing those hundreds of millions of dollars. We are proud to stand with law enforcement officers and continue working with them on smart and commonsense criminal justice reforms to protect our communities.”

The Democratic Attorneys General have been supportive of the Administration’s plan to make our communities safer and reduce gun crime, which:

• Stems the flow of firearms used to commit violence,
• Supports local law enforcement with federal tools and resources to address violent crime,
• Invests in evidence-based community violence interventions,
• Expands summer programming, employment opportunities, and other services and supports for teenagers and young adults, and
• Helps formerly incarcerated individuals successfully reenter their communities.
