DAGA Statement on SCOTUS Ruling that Protects Domestic Violence Victims
June 21, 2024
Washington, DC — The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) issued a statement following the Supreme Court’s ruling in United States v. Rahimi that will continue to prevent people subject to domestic violence restraining orders from obtaining a firearm.
Statement from Nevada AG Aaron Ford and Delaware AG Kathy Jennings, DAGA Co-Chairs:
“We are relieved to see the decision today from the Supreme Court that will keep in place necessary restrictions on gun possession for domestic abusers. Victims of domestic violence deserve to feel safe and protected, and today’s ruling is a step in the right direction. As Democratic Attorneys General, we work every day to ensure that everyone can feel safe, healthy, and secure at home, at school, and in their communities. Many of us have spent our careers fighting to protect domestic violence victims. We will continue advocating for common sense gun safety reforms and for resources that support local law enforcement and community organizations to keep our constituents safe.”
