Bishop is too extreme for North Carolina

Washington, DC – Today, The Charlotte Observer highlighted some of the extremist past from GOP AG nominee in North Carolina, Dan Bishop, and his history as a “conservative hardliner.”

The Observer reports on Bishop’s far-right past—from authoring the disastrous and anti-LGBTQ+ “bathroom bill” to joining the far-right  House Freedom Caucus and voting to overturn the 2020 election.

Key Highlights

  • “In his first term, he landed at the center of one of the biggest controversies in North Carolina’s recent history…he wrote House Bill 2, North Carolina’s controversial and consequential ‘bathroom bill.’”
  • The state and national backlash was swift and intense. Lawsuits were filed days after it became statute, and businesses canceled deals across the state. In 2017, the General Assembly partially repealed HB2.”

  • “In Congress, Bishop has been one of the more prominent members of the Freedom Caucus, a group of Republican hardliners.”
  • “…when Trump lost the 2020 election, Bishop was one of 147 Republicans who voted to overturn the results.
