Sharpton & Ellison Talk Litigation Against Glock, Texas AGs’ Overreaching Lawsuit to Sue NY Doctor for Providing Abortion Medication
Washington, DC – Over the weekend, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison joined Rev. Al Sharpton on PoliticsNation to discuss a wide range of issues — from the legal battles ahead under the incoming Trump administration, to the joint lawsuit that he and New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin filed last week against the firearm company Glock, to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filing a lawsuit to attack a New York doctor for doing her job and prescribing abortion pills to a Texas woman.
Key highlights:
- “Well, the lawsuit basically says ‘Glock, not only do you know your gun is converted into a machine gun, you make it particularly easy in your design to do that. It is foreseeable.’ They also advertise automatic weapons that the public is not allowed to buy. But that they know the public can buy a semi-automatic weapon and then convert it into a machine gun by buying one of these $10 switches.”
- “Let me tell you law enforcement officials, police officers, citizens, neighbors, victims, are outraged that Glock has not taken action to make sure their product is not used to become a machine gun, which is illegal. And Glock could easily change their design and that is what our lawsuit is all about.”
- “We believe that the havoc on our streets, the funerals that Pastors like yourself have to preside over, they don’t have to happen. And so you know, we want peace in the streets and Glock can do its part by changing its product design and they can do that today.”
EG Ellison then turns to discuss AG Paxton’s lawsuit and reaffirms abortion rights for women in Minnesota and those who may travel to the state to seek abortion care.
- “You know, I have to say that we will be litigating this matter. The fact is that women should have and must have the right to safe legal abortion in states like Minnesota and New York and California, many others, they can get those – most of them are medical. I think that the fact that people in other states like Texas, they want to be able to get that opportunity to vindicate their rights.”
- “I mean, the fact is that you’re gonna see folks like in some of these red states, AGs, come after people. But I just want to make sure that everyone knows this, that in Minnesota, if you come to Minnesota to do what is constitutionally protected in Minnesota, no matter where you’re from, you have a right to travel to Minnesota, then we’re gonna fight for and protect your rights no matter where you are.”
- “So that’s the thing, these folks’ battle lines are getting clearer you know, and so just to let you know that this is something that is very much on our mind, we expect we’re gonna fight it out in court and there are still unresolved decisions.”
