Statement from DAGA Co-Chairs on the Fight to Save Health Care for Millions

November 11, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) Co-Chairs Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum released the following statement on the Democratic Attorney General-led effort to save the Affordable Care Act at the U.S. Supreme Court. Democratic Attorneys General, led by California AG Xavier Becerra, have been defending the Affordable Care Act in court from Republican Attorneys General since 2018.

Statement from Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum, Co-Chairs of the Democratic Attorneys General Association

“This morning at the U.S. Supreme Court, Democratic Attorneys General fought to save health care for millions, including 133 million people with pre-existing conditions.”

“On the other side, bringing the case to gut the ACA was a group of Republican Attorneys General – this in the middle of a global pandemic that’s already impacted 10 million people across the country and killed more than 225,000.”

“Unfortunately, some of these same Republican AGs in recent days have made baseless statements, without producing a shred of evidence, that are aimed at delegitimizing a free and fair election. Attorneys General are expected to protect people and to defend the rule of law.”

“Whether it’s seeking to take health care away from millions of Americans or attempting to undermine democracy and a peaceful transition of power, it’s troubling and disappointing to see any state’s attorney general work to harm the very people whose rights they are sworn to protect.”

Our democracy can't wait.
