Former CA AG, Sen. Kamala Harris Breaks Glass Ceiling for Millions

WASHINGTON, D.C— Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) Co-Chairs Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum released the following statement congratulating Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris on winning the 2020 Presidential Election, doing so with the most votes ever received.

Statement from Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum, Co-Chairs of the Democratic Attorneys General Association

“Our heartfelt congratulations to President-Elect Joe Biden and Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris. This fall, millions of voters overcame a global pandemic, threats of intimidation, and misinformation to cast their ballots in historic numbers. America’s voters chose unity over fear, love over hate, and competence over chaos. After four years of battling the barrage of attacks against the rule of law from the Trump administration, we are ready to work alongside the Biden-Harris administration for a better America. President-Elect Biden campaigned on restoring the soul of our nation. We know he and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will lead us through these tough times.”

“Senator Harris’ election to Vice President is historic, breaking a 244-year-old glass ceiling. We could not be prouder of our former AG colleague and friend. We will all look back and remember exactly where we were when we learned Kamala Harris was elected Vice President of the United States! As a former Democratic Attorney General, Kamala Harris knows the importance of our role and the leadership that comes from the states. We look forward to tackling the challenges that lie ahead together.”

“In the days ahead, there are sure to be attempts to sow confusion and cast doubt upon the election results. We urge you: stay focused on what matters—this was a free and fair election that upheld the will of the people. In America, the people pick the winners. Not the candidates. Not the media. Not the courts. It’s our job as leaders to make sure the people’s voices are heard.”

“Democratic Attorneys General are committed to working with state and local officials around the clock to protect your votes and the integrity of the election. We demand the same of Republican Attorneys General—who have unfortunately, thus far, failed to meet the moment. A peaceful transfer of power is the hallmark of our democracy—and that requires all of us to put politics aside to unite around this free and fair election.”
