DAGA Co-Chair Statement on Donald Trump’s Georgia Indictment
August 15, 2023
Washington, DC — The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement today after the news of Donald Trump’s indictment for his actions in Georgia in 2020.
Statement from DAGA Co-Chairs Delaware AG Kathy Jennings and Nevada AG Aaron Ford:
“No one is above the law — and the previous indictments of Donald Trump over the past several months are proof of that ironclad principle’s continued existence in America. Trump and his allies engaged in a dangerous and deeply un-democratic campaign to try to steal the 2020 election from the American people, especially in the state of Georgia. His conduct was an egregious attack on our electoral system and our democracy. We also cannot overlook the human impact of his actions, including the election supervisors and workers whose lives were threatened and the police officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect polling places, tabulation centers, and the certification process.
“Trump and his allies’ behavior is a flashing red light to Americans from every walk of life and political persuasion as we prepare for the 2024 presidential election. Our democracy is strong, and it has worked for more than two centuries because we settle our disputes at the ballot box and in the courts – not with threatening phone calls and violence.
“We are ready to defend the 2024 election, just as we did the last one. Whether it is a repeat of Texas v. Pennsylvania, the meritless and embarrassing lawsuit led by Texas AG Ken Paxton, or more attempts to intimidate election workers, Democratic AGs will fight back vigorously with every legal option at our disposal.”
