DAGA Co-Chair Statement on President Biden Ending Re-Election Bid

July 21, 2024

Washington, DC — Today, President Joe Biden announced that he will not be seeking re-election. Following the news, the Co-Chairs of the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement:

Statement from DAGA Co-Chairs Nevada AG Aaron Ford and Delaware AG Kathy Jennings:

“Thank you, President Biden. Thank you for a lifetime of service to and love for our country. Since first being elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972, you have been resolute in your commitment to bettering the lives of all Americans and working with both sides of the aisle to do what’s best. We applaud you for the extraordinary contributions you have made as a true public servant.

“President Biden came into office during a very difficult and divisive time, and when the country needed his leadership the most, he found common ground and worked deftly and tirelessly on the passage of the most far-reaching legislative package in our history. His Administration created millions of new jobs; passed the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act; lowered health care and drug costs for millions of Americans; signed bipartisan gun safety legislation; and restored America’s standing as the leader of the free world.

“As Democratic Attorneys General, it has been our honor to work side-by-side with the Biden-Harris Administration, supporting their initiatives, and serving as proud partners in defending Americans’ rights and freedoms. Mr. President, we are a better and stronger nation because of you.

“At DAGA, we are committed to winning the Presidential election come November. We know exactly what a second Trump presidency would mean. For four years, Democratic AGs were the last line of defense and the biggest check on the Trump Administration, holding Trump accountable to the rule of law. We will do everything we can to ensure Democrats win up and down the ballot this fall in order to protect democracy, our constituents, and the rights of all Americans.”
