DAGA Co-Chairs Applaud Senate Passage of Legislation To Codify Same-Sex and Interracial Marriages

November 29, 2022

Washington, DC — Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement applauding the Senate passage of the bipartisan legislation to codify same-sex and interracial marriages.

Statement from DAGA Co-Chairs Nevada AG Aaron Ford and Delaware AG Kathy Jennings:

“Today is such a huge sigh of relief for families across our nation that will now have the peace of mind of knowing they have the same rights and protections to marry whom they love. We applaud the Senate for doing the right thing in a bipartisan manner. The Respect for Marriage Act recognizes a fundamental American right that everyone is entitled to respect, dignity, and equal protection under our laws. Discrimination has no room in America, and Democratic Attorneys General will continue to do everything in our power to ensure our laws and institutions protect the rights of all, including our LGBTQ+ communities. We look forward to President Joe Biden swiftly signing this bill into law to live up to the promise our nation was founded on: equality for all.”
