Statement from DAGA Co-Chairs on Senate Approval of Nominee Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court

October 27, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) Co-Chairs Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum released the following statement in response to the U.S. Senate voting to confirm Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett to the seat once held by the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Statement from Massachusetts AG Maura Healey and Oregon AG Ellen Rosenblum, Co-Chairs of the Democratic Attorneys General Association

“The Republican leadership in the U.S. Senate chose to betray the will of the American people by rushing to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett on the eve of the election. Thankfully, in our democracy, there is a powerful remedy for hypocrisy: your vote. One week from now, the American people need to make our voices heard at the ballot box.”

“With so much on the line for so many, we need to elect Democrats up and down the ballot — especially Democratic Attorneys General — to fight for health care, reproductive rights, equality, voting rights, climate change policies, workers’ rights, and gun safety. That has never mattered more than it does right now.”

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND

  • DAGA released a new video in collaboration with One Vote At A Time to underscore the importance of electing Democratic Attorneys General and the crucial role state leaders play in keeping our communities safe.
  • There are 10 state Attorney General races this year with five Democratic Attorneys General seeking re-election and five states where DAGA is working hard to flip seats back to blue. Read more about DAGA’s investment in battleground states here.
  • DAGA committed last Fall to only supporting Democratic AG candidates who publicly support reproductive rights, including access to abortion – especially important given the conservative packing of the courts.
