Washington, D.C. — Following increased calls for comprehensive gun reform, 2018 Democratic Nominee for Ohio Attorney General Steve Dettelbach has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Dettelbach will serve as the first permanent Director of ATF in over seven years. He’s worked as a prosecutor at the Department of Justice for over two decades and served as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio. As Director of ATF, he will continue to tackle rising crime and enforce commonsense gun legislation.

Statement from Sean Rankin, President, Democratic Attorneys General Association:

“DAGA congratulates Steve Dettelbach on his confirmation to be the next ATF Director. It’s always great to see members of our DAGA family join the Biden-Harris Administration, and today Steve joins a long list of former AGs and AG candidates who have been appointed to different high-ranking positions within the Administration. As the first permanent ATF Director in seven years, Steve will work tirelessly to keep Americans in every corner of the country safe. His leadership will be instrumental in the fight for gun violence prevention, and we look forward to seeing what his unique perspective will bring to this vital office.”
