DAGA Endorses Nate Willems for Iowa Attorney General

May 6, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC – The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) is pleased to announce its endorsement of Nate Willems for Iowa Attorney General. A lifelong Iowan, Willems knows firsthand what it’s like to stand up for working families. As an experienced labor lawyer, Willems recovered $15 million for 11,000 current and former hospital and clinic workers in Iowa, returned $1.7 million for custodians in backpay, and won the largest-ever collective bargaining wage in Iowa history on behalf of local police officers. As a former state representative, Nate made it a priority to expand quality public education access and pass key legislation to fortify the rights of Iowa workers.

Statement from Sean Rankin, DAGA President:

“Nate Willems is an experienced and dedicated public servant who has fought on behalf of working Iowans, and DAGA is excited to announce our endorsement of his campaign. As an experienced labor lawyer, he’s taken on bad actors who mistreated employees and secured historic victories for police officers, hospital workers, firefighters, and many other Iowans across the state. As a former state legislator, Willems always put his constituents first. Willems is ready to take on tough fights, including defending the rule of law and democracy. As attorney general, he will hold bad actors accountable and put Iowans and their families first again.

“Iowans are ready to elect leaders this year who will fight for them, and Willems will deliver. We look forward to helping elect him as the state’s next attorney general and flipping this seat come November.”

Statement from Nate Willems, Democratic candidate for Iowa Attorney General:

“Thank you to DAGA for the early endorsement in this critical race. Iowa needs leaders who will actually stand up for the people of this great state. I have spent my career working to ensure Iowans have good paying jobs, with dignity and healthcare, both as a legislator and as an attorney. As attorney general, I will continue this fight to protect and expand every Iowans’ rights and freedoms. I’ll go after corporations who steal from Iowa workers, while also making Iowa communities safer by working with prosecutors and local law enforcement to secure convictions for violent crime. It is crucial we win back the Attorney General’s Office in November, and I look forward to working closely with DAGA to make that happen.”
