DAGA Statement on Horrific Massacre in Uvalde, Texas

May 25, 2022

Washington, DC — The Democratic Attorneys General Association released the following statement following the horrific and devastating news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas that killed 19 children and 2 teachers.

Statement from DAGA Co-Chairs Nevada AG Aaron Ford and Delaware AG Kathy Jennings:

“We are heartbroken over this horrific act of gun violence in Uvalde, Texas. We are grieving for the families who woke up today without their loved ones. This is a family’s worst nightmare, and we refuse to accept the status quo of inaction and fatalism that accompanies these mass shootings. Democratic AGs will redouble our efforts to support common sense gun safety policies that will help reduce the likelihood of these grotesque murders. Inaction is simply not an option, either in Congress or our state legislatures. We will not cower in fear to the gun lobby, who remain at the epicenter of this disgusting violence.

“The grim reality is that it was only 11 days ago that we lost another 10 lives at the hands of gun violence in a racist hate crime in Buffalo, New York. Whether it’s a school, a grocery store, a place of worship, a movie theater, everyone in this country deserves to live their lives without fear of these senseless acts. We must act now. As Democratic Attorneys General, we will do everything in our power to end this epidemic of gun violence.”
