Recent Polling Shows Weiser Leading By 12-points in the General Election
Washington, D.C.— Following the final results of the Democratic primary, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (@DemocraticAGs) endorsed Phil Weiser for Colorado Attorney General today. Weiser served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice during the Obama Administration and most recently led the University of Colorado Law School as its Dean from 2011-16.
“The primary in Colorado turned out to be a contest between two strong candidates that we knew could have carried the general— and today, after a long few days and a very close vote, we are proud to endorse Phil Weiser for Attorney General in Colorado,” said Sean Rankin, Executive Director of the Democratic Attorneys General Association. “We know there is energy in Colorado to see the office of Attorney General swing back to blue—and we know that Weiser will work tirelessly to protect the people of Colorado and put their needs first.”
In November, Weiser will face Republican nominee George Brauchler. In a recent poll of Colorado voters, Weiser leads Brauchler by 12-points in the general election. This polling is consistent with DAGA’s research in other states, which shows enthusiasm and a favorable environment for Democratic Attorneys General candidates. Tuesday’s primary results manifested that energy at the ballot box as unaffiliated voters chose to vote Democratic at a ratio of nearly 2-1. Overall primary results show Democratic turnout at record-breaking highs.
“The truth is that Phil Weiser will beat George Brauchler, a candidate who fails to rise about the level of generic Republican, at the ballot box in November,” continued Rankin. “There is no such ‘swing to the left’ as the Republican Attorneys General Association tries to sell.”
“Instead in Phil Weiser, there is a candidate who appeals to Democrats, Independents, and even moderate Republicans,” concluded Rankin. “We look forward to watching Weiser’s campaign and we look forward to winning the Attorneys General seat in November.”
