DEBATE RECAP: AG Kris Mayes Triumphs Over MAGA Extremist Petersen

September 24, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC – Last night, Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and GOP candidate for AG Warren Petersen faced off in their first on screen debate for attorney general, and Petersen spent the entire time proving just how wrong he is for AG.

Statement from Lottie Ash, DAGA Political Director:

“On the debate stage we saw the type of AG Warren Petersen will be for Arizona: disastrous and unqualified. Numerous times, Petersen tried to hide from his own record and tried to deceive Arizona voters into voting for him, but his actions showed how corrupt, extreme, and out of touch he actually is. Petersen showed he has no interest in working for or protecting Arizonans. His real interest lies in fulfilling a Trump agenda that will harm every hard-working family that is still struggling to make ends meet.

“The choice could not be clearer: Arizona needs an Attorney General who will actually fight for them and put them first, and that’s undoubtedly Kris Mayes.”

Background:

Arizonans deserve to know where Petersen actually stands on the most important issues affecting the state.

Here’s a few facts about him:

  1. Petersen is an anti-abortion extremist. Though Arizonans voted to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s Constitution, Petersen still continued to support restrictions on abortion in court. and he has called abortion a “gruesome, barbaric, and depraved practice.”
  2. Unqualified wannabe: Petersen wants to serve as Arizona’s head lawyer, yet he just received his law license in December 2023 which means he’s only been a licensed attorney for less than 3 years, barely qualifying him for the office of attorney general
  3. Election denier supreme: Petersen spearheaded the wasteful Cyber Ninja audit which cost taxpayers millions of dollars, while also perpetuating the lie that the 2020 election was stolen
  4. Pay-to-Play Politician Petersen: Various corporate special interest groups including BoaVida Group have contributed directly to Petersen’s campaign and Restore Order Arizona PAC, which supported Petersen’s campaign. Some of these companies have been under investigation by Attorney General Kris Mayes for putting consumers in harm’s way, including leaving mobile-residents without air conditioning in the Arizona heat

With so many red flags, how can Arizonans trust Petersen will do the right thing for them?
