Democratic AGs Continue to Defend Health Care for Millions of Americans One Year After Passage of American Rescue Plan

Republican AGs Led Fight Against ACA, ARP

Washington, DC — As we approach the one year anniversary of the passage of the American Rescue Plan (ARP), the Democratic Attorneys General are highlighting how the Biden-Harris Administration is helping to cut health care costs and strengthen the Affordable Care Act (ACA) through the ARP. Democratic AGs have successfully defended the ACA in the courts time and again. On the other hand, Republican Attorneys General led the fight against the ACA, which would have raised health care costs on millions of Americans had they succeeded.

Twenty-one Democratic Attorneys General, led by former California AG, and now HHS Secretary, Xavier Becerra, were part of the successful Supreme Court case defending the ACA last year. Republican AGs, led by current Texas AG Ken Paxton and former President Donald Trump, tried to dismantle the ACA, which would have left millions of Americans without health care.

Statement from DAGA Co-Chairs Nevada AG Aaron Ford and Delaware AG Kathy Jennings:

“For years, Democratic Attorneys General have been fighting in court to protect health care for millions of Americans, and we’ve won. Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, the Affordable Care Act is growing stronger by the day. It continues to cut health care costs and ensure that those who seek coverage at an affordable price can get it. As Democratic AGs, defending affordable health care has been one of our top accomplishments to date. And we will continue to defend it despite failed attack after failed attack from our Republican counterparts. We thank the Biden-Harris Administration for expanding access and addressing disparities during the pandemic, ensuring that affordable health care is a right for every American.”
