Does Jason Miyares Agree with His Running Mate’s Extreme Views on Abortion?

Virginia voters deserve to know if anti-abortion Miyares backs Earle-Sears' extreme views on abortion and reproductive rights
WASHINGTON, DC – As Virginia AG Jason Miyares continues to actively campaign alongside gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears, his ticket mate’s far-right, extremist views on abortion and reproductive health care raise important questions about where he stands on these issues.
According to a new article from The Virginia Mercury, “During Virginia’s General Assembly session this year, Earle-Sears expressed opposition to Virginia’s in-progress effort to enshrine reproductive rights including abortion into the constitution but has not answered follow-up questions on whether she would support the measure if its language were adjusted.” Similarly, MAGA AG Miyares hasn’t spoken up about his anti-abortion record – even after joining an event led by the Family Foundation, an extreme anti-abortion group, just last month.
The article also states, “When signing the advanced legislation earlier this year, her duty as lieutenant governor, Earle-Sears wrote that she was ‘morally opposed to this bill…’” And “During her 2021 lieutenant governor campaign she described abortions as ‘genocide.’” It continues, “[Earle-Sears] did cast such a vote on a right-to-contraception bill, voting against it.” As a legislator, Miyares also voted multiple times against the Reproductive Health Protection Act.
Earle-Sears’ views on abortion are out of touch with the overwhelming majority of Virginia voters, and as Miyares remains by her side, there are some pressing questions he must answer:
- Why was one of your first acts in the AGs office to encourage the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade?
- Do you think it’s right for the Trump administration to roll back the rights on abortion access for veterans and eligible civilians?
- Why did you speak at a webcast hosted by an extreme anti-abortion group that is looking to ban abortion in Virginia, despite 62% of Virginians supporting a constitutional amendment that would protect abortion rights?
- How are Virginians supposed to trust you to protect their rights and freedoms if you still haven’t spoken up about Trump’s attacks on the Commonwealth?
