Governor Phil Scott Plays Politics with Attorney General Appointment

Republican to Serve Remainder of Democrat AG Donovan’s Term

Washington, DC — Earlier today, Vermont Governor Phil Scott abruptly appointed Susanne Young, a Republican, to be the next Attorney General of the state to replace outgoing Democratic Attorney General T.J. Donovan following his departure from office.

Statement from Sean Rankin, President, Democratic Attorneys General Association:

“We are just months away from an AG election in Vermont and Governor Phil Scott is playing politics with the Attorney General’s office. Shame on him for appointing a Republican to take former AG Donovan’s seat. Vermonters overwhelmingly elected a Democrat to the office of Attorney General in 2020, and they deserve to have a Democrat in office for the remainder of AG Donovan’s term.”
