ICYMI: Democratic AGs are Fighting for America’s Students
March 19, 2025
After Trump attempted to gut the Department of Education, Democratic AGs took immediate action, filing their tenth lawsuit against the administration
Washington, DC – Last week, Democratic attorneys general banded together to stop the Trump administration from unlawfully dismantling the U.S. Department of Education, which would put billions of dollars of educational resources in jeopardy.
Over the weekend, Democratic AGs took to TV to discuss the lawsuit and fiercely defend the right of all students in America to receive quality education.
Massachusetts AG Andrea Campbell on MSNBC’s PoliticsNation with Al Sharpton:
- “And what we’re seeing is a disregard for the law, which is the conduct of this president and administration from the very beginning. I’ve been reminding folks everywhere I go, not just here in Massachusetts, that the greatest weapon back against this unlawful administration and their actions is your attorney general.”
- “So I’m proud to have stepped up with over 20 other AGs across the country to protect the Department of Education…”
New Jersey AG Matthew Platkin on MSNBC Prime:
- “I’ll tell you, this makes me angry, both as a chief law enforcement officer that I swore an oath to protect millions of kids in my state, but also as a parent of two kids in public school that both them and their friends. This administration, for politics and for reasons they frankly can’t even properly articulate, are threatening these families.”
- “85% of kids rely on public schools and their families are really gonna be harmed by these unlawful actions.”
- “A billion dollars flows to my state to ensure that kids in every community get quality education. It makes sure that kids get special needs services that they’re legally entitled to, and it makes sure that we are educating our kids the way that I think every parent would hope for.”
Michigan AG Dana Nessel on MSNBC’s The Katie Phang Show:
- “And we’re not going to, as attorneys general around the country, the Democratic AGs, we’re not gonna just sit back and allow these flagrant violations of federal law, of the Constitution, of the Administrative Procedures Act.”
- “We’re not going to allow them time and again to flout a long time precedent and to say basically ‘We can do whatever it is that we want to do.’ No, you can’t.”
