ICYMI: Jay Jones Outlines His Plan to Protect Reproductive Rights in Virginia

August 28, 2025

Jones: “We haven't had someone who will push back against all these attacks we are facing on our reproductive health care, so there is so much at stake in this election.”

WASHINGTON, DC – This week, Democratic nominee for attorney general Jay Jones hosted a roundtable discussion with Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, reproductive health care providers, and abortion-access advocates. Jones said he would promote the passage of a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion rights in the Virginia Constitution and set up a reproductive rights hotline within the AGs office.

“‘This hotline is an easy way for us to connect with the community, for us to let people know that we are there, and that we are able to tackle any challenges that we see and support them in their times of need,’” Jones told ABC8. Jones also shared, “’We want to make sure that women across Virginia know that we have their back, that they have the access to the healthcare that they need, and that we continue to demonstrate in Virginia that we’re a leader in the healthcare space.’”

The conversation also serves as a reminder that Republican AG Jason Miyares has remained silent as Trump seeks to ban abortion for veterans and has recently praised an anti-abortion extremist group that is working to undermine abortion rights in Virginia.

Statement from Carolyn Fiddler, DAGA’s Director of Communications:

“There is no doubt that Jay Jones will be a fierce defender of reproductive rights and will work to expand reproductive health care and abortion access for the Commonwealth. Jones is focused on protecting the people of Virginia and expanding their rights, not stripping them away. By hosting a roundtable discussion around a topic that has been under attack by MAGA Republicans, including by Jason Miyares himself, Jones is demonstrating that he understands what’s at stake. Virginia needs an attorney general who will always be a champion for reproductive freedom, which is why Jones will be the next attorney general this November.”
