ICYMI: Meet the Election Deniers Running to be Attorney General
October 22, 2026
GOP attorney general nominees from Arizona, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, and Nevada will stop at nothing to promote Trump’s Big Lie
WASHINGTON, DC – New reporting conducted by WIRED details how a slew of Republican candidates running for state attorney general are not only staunch election deniers, but some have even expressed willingness to go back to relitigate the 2020 election.
“‘Any attorney general should be dedicated to upholding the rule of law,’” Christina Beeler, senior counsel for the Chicago Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, told WIRED. “‘The office of attorney general is a powerful office, and it is deeply important that anyone in that role is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and the results of elections.’”
As voters head to the polls, it’s important they know who these Republican nominees are and that they won’t think twice before putting Trump’s agenda before anything else.
Key highlights:
- “Warren Petersen, an Arizona state senator, was one of the most vocal supporters of Trump’s baseless claim that the 2020 election was stolen. In 2020, he signed a document that asked Congress to accept 11 alternate electoral votes for Trump, and later signed another demanding the US Senate reject Arizona’s slate of electors.”
- “Petersen was also central to getting the bogus audit in Maricopa County approved, a process run by a firm called Cyber Ninjas. The audit ultimately showed that Joe Biden had won by more votes than originally thought. The whole process cost Arizona taxpayers millions.”
- “And the lawmaker has also signaled a possible desire to relitigate the 2020 election if he’s elected.”
- “In 2020, as a state senator, [Brian] Strickland shared a press release that called for officials to consider launching an investigation into ‘fraudulent activities’ in the 2020 election, a forensic audit of the election in Georgia, and new voting laws in the state.
- “When FBI officials raided Fulton County’s election offices earlier this year and seized ballots from the 2020 election, Strickland called it a ‘transparency’ measure.’”
- “A long-time promoter of baseless conspiracy theories about fraudulent elections, [Kris] Kobach previously served as Kansas’ secretary of state from 2011 to 2019. […] In 2017, Trump appointed Kobach to the short-lived ‘election integrity’ commission that found no evidence of widespread voter fraud.”
- “…when asked about ‘credible concerns raised by voters about the 2020 election,’ [Doug Lloyd] signaled his willingness to relitigate the six-year-old issue.”
- “In Nevada, Trump has endorsed lawyer Adriana Guzmán Fralick for the position of attorney general. That may be because she has said she would push for Nevada’s version of the SAVE Act, which Trump has failed to force Congress to approve on a federal level.”
