ICYMI: Michigan AG Dana Nessel Talks Election Disinformation, Election Protection with MSNBC
October 22, 2024
Washington, DC – This past weekend, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel sat down with Jonathan Capehart and Al Sharpton on MSNBC to discuss the spread of election disinformation, her readiness to protect election results, and the excitement many Michiganders feel about casting their votes for Vice President Kamala Harris.
Key highlights:
- “Everybody knew this was coming when Musk purchased Twitter in the first place and we knew that ultimately he would be using it to sow the seeds of distrust and generate misinformation and very dangerous disinformation not just all across Michigan but all across America, all across the globe… He is using every trick in the book to make sure that people don’t trust the results of the election because it is so likely, of course, that Kamala Harris is going to win.”
- “I think it is for us in elected office, in my job, to defend the secretary of state, Secretary Benson, and lawsuits against her, and also to defend the will of the voters. We are prepared to do that. I will say the lawsuits that I see, that are being filed particularly by the RNC, are not particularly strong and they don’t have a lot of merit.”
- “So I will say this, the people that I’ve talked to are excited. They’re energized. There’s a lot of, you know, motivation to get out there and vote for Kamala Harris. We’re a very purple state here in Michigan… but I think that Kamala Harris is doing all the right things and Michiganiganders… are going to show up for her…And yes, I will say there are a lot of people that are afraid of Donald Trump and want to make sure he gets nowhere near the White House again, but more than that, I see people who are just really excited for the opportunity to cast their ballot for Vice President Harris. We’ve already had over a million people in Michigan who have voted as of this morning.”
- “Well, we’ve already been seeing challenges during the past several weeks even since the ballots have been out, we’ve seen repeated efforts by the RNC and others to challenge the right of American citizens, Michigan residents to vote. I’m not particularly impressed with the strength of those lawsuits and so we are going to keep on defending the people of our state defending the will of the voters. And I think ultimately at the end of the day, people will know that our voting system is safe, secure and accurate, and we’re going to prove that in the ports as well.”
