ABC27 Sits Down with Pennsylvania’s Eugene DePasquale
Washington, DC — Last week, ABC27 sat down with both candidates running for Attorney General in Pennsylvania. While Democratic candidate for Pennsylvania AG Eugene DePasquale laid out his top priorities, including protecting abortion access, his GOP opponent continued to dodge the abortion question.
“‘I thought at this particular moment we needed an attorney general who would go out and fight for everyday Pennsylvanians, particularly when you had the Dobbs decision, when you had now the threats to reproductive freedom,’” DePasquale shared with ABC27.
DePasquale also called out his opponent who recently dodged the abortion question again. The article states, “DePasquale says he’s pro-choice and believes in a woman’s right to choose whether to have an abortion. Sunday has said he has no opinion on the issue of abortion and says the job of an Attorney General is to prosecute the law.”
“‘The idea that you don’t have an opinion as an adult running for public office, particularly attorney general, on the issue of abortion, I find rather strange,’ said DePasquale. ‘That means he has an opinion and it’s just unpopular.’”
In the interview, DePasquale also laid out his priorities. “DePasquale says he wants to stand up to greedy corporations and those who take advantage of the elderly. ‘Also important,’ DePasquale said, ‘that we protect our environment and these crooks that are trying to scam our seniors. I’m going to crack down on them as well. I ran because we needed an attorney general right now that will make those take on those fights on behalf of everyday Pennsylvanians.’”
The difference between DePasquale and his GOP opponent Dave Sunday is clear. As DePasquale shared, “‘I have a broader legal experience that encompasses not only protecting the community like my investigations, it uncovered the untested rape kits and child protection, but also the environment, consumer protection, protecting our seniors,’ argued DePasquale when asked what makes him more qualified to serve as Attorney General. ‘I have had a broad experience on that, and I’ve run a complicated state agency before.’”
