ICYMI: PA Dem AG Candidate Shines in Final Debate, Discusses Abortion Rights Protection, Gun Violence Prevention

DePasquale reinforced his stance on protecting abortion rights while his GOP opponent gave the same nonanswer he’s been giving for months
Washington, DC – Last night on the debate stage, Pennsylvania Democratic attorney general candidate Eugene DePasquale trounced his GOP opponent Dave Sunday in the final confrontation before Election Day. DePasquale thoughtfully answered each question, giving Pennsyvlanians clear insight to his key priorities as the next attorney general.
Sunday remained unable to give a decisive answer on how he would protect abortion rights in the state – a key freedom a majority of Pennsylvanians support protecting. Meanwhile, DePasquale once again left no doubt where he stands.
“I believe in a woman’s right to choose, I’ve made it clear I will never prosecute a woman for having an abortion,” said DePasquale. “I’ll also never prosecute a doctor for performing that. Why? My family had personal experience with this. We had an ectopic pregnancy at week 10. Tracey could have died that night and our ability to have kids would have been in jeopardy.”
DePasquale also elaborated his stance on gun violence prevention in the state.
“People have the right to keep and bear arms in Pennsylvania, and the Constitution is clear. But it’s also clear that we have the right to pass a red flag law through a judicial process to temporarily–I want to repeat, temporarily–restricts someone’s access to firearms when they are a danger to themselves and their community. That will save their life and save lives of the community, and still preserve our right to keep and bear arms.
DePasquale concluded, “The legislature should pass universal background checks, and they should pass red flag laws.”
