Democratic Attorneys General Association Statement on Kentucky Primary Results

May 22, 2019

Washington, D.C.— The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement from Executive Director Sean Rankin following Democratic AG candidate Greg Stumbo’s uncontested primary win and current Democratic AG Andy Beshear’s victory in the Gubernatorial primary tonight.

Statement from Sean Rankin, Executive Director of the Democratic Attorneys General Association:

“Kentucky voters clearly know the difference that having a strong Democratic AG makes in their everyday lives. That is why Andy Beshear won the Democratic gubernatorial primary—and why we are confident Greg Stumbo is the one to continue the progress in the Kentucky Office of Attorney General.  Stumbo has the experience of being an Attorney General himself, and like Beshear and Conway before him, Stumbo will put the hard-working people of Kentucky first. In the past three years, there has been no greater champion for working Kentuckians – teachers, law enforcement, firefighters, and all those who serve the people of Kentucky – than Andy Beshear.”

“In the upcoming fall campaign, you can expect to see national party organizations working hand-in-hand with the Kentucky Democratic Party to build capacity and support to enable Beshear, Stumbo, and all our candidates to win in November.  The Democratic Attorneys General Association will do our part to keep the AG seat blue and put a Democrat back in the Governor’s Office.”

Beshear’s run for Governor follows the trend of Democratic AGs serving as the legal backbone of the Democratic Party and bringing that expertise and leadership to other elected and appointed offices across the country. For more on Democratic AG leadership, check out the fact sheet linked here.
