WASHINGTON, DC – Kansas attorney general Kris Kobach can try to hide his past, but the people of Kansas deserve to know how he used his involvement with the scandal-plagued ‘nonprofit’ We Build the Wall to violate campaign finance and election law during his failed bid for U.S. Senate.

Here’s how his actions make him entirety too corrupt to serve as AG:

1. Kobach was general counsel and served on the board of directors for We Build the Wall, an organization that raised $25 million and whose founders were convicted of fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering for defrauding donors.
2. While the organization’s founders were convicted of defrauding donors, Kobach remained on the board of directors. 
3. During his run for U.S. Senate, Kobach used one of the organizations email lists to solicit donor names and later accepted donations to fund his campaign – violating federal campaign finance and election laws.
4. Kobach’s campaign and We Build the Wall were fined $30,000 by the FEC, of which the Kobach campaign only paid $5,060.

This isn’t the first time Kobach has failed to properly follow the law. Back in 2018, a federal judge ordered him to take additional legal education classes after he was found in contempt of court, classes he used taxpayer dollars to pay for.

If Kobach cannot be trusted to know and follow the law, he should not be trusted to sit in the office of the attorney general.
