Michigan AG Race Set: AG Nessel Clear Choice for Re-Election

August 2, 2022

Big Lie Supporter Matt DePerno to Face AG Nessel in November

Washington, D.C. — Following today’s primary, the Michigan general election is set as Democratic AG Dana Nessel will face off against anti-reproductive rights and Big Lie leader Matt DePerno. DePerno has copied former President Donald Trump’s brand of politics, and he has a notorious track record of supporting disproven conspiracy theories including Trump’s Big Lie about the 2020 election.

Since first being elected in 2018, AG Nessel has worked tirelessly to protect consumers and defend the civil rights of Michigan residents, and she will continue her work as a dedicated advocate and attorney for the state when re-elected this fall.

Statement from Sean Rankin, President, Democratic Attorneys General Association:

“The choice for Attorney General in Michigan is clear. AG Nessel has worked tirelessly to protect Michiganders, and re-electing her this fall is vital to preserving democracy in Michigan and across this country. Matt DePerno is a far-right extremist who cares only about promoting lies about the 2020 election for self gain and has no interest in serving the people of Michigan. He’s unqualified to be Michigan’s Attorney General and is an example of the growing and dangerous fringe element of the Republican Party. By contrast, AG Nessel has proven during her tenure that she will never stop fighting for Michigan families. She is the right and obvious choice.”
