Miyares Sides with Trump, Notably Missing (Again) as AGs File Lawsuit to Protect SNAP Funds Amid Shutdown
October 28, 2025
Miyares has failed to join another lawsuit that would protect 850,000 Virginians from going hungry during the federal government shutdown
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Miyares failed to protect Virginians again after refusing to sign onto a lawsuit filed by all 23 Democratic attorneys general and three Democratic governors challenging the Trump administration for its refusal to tap into emergency funds to keep food aid flowing into the states during the GOP’s government shutdown.
Miyares has a long history of ignoring the Trump administration’s wrongdoings, and now he’s also ignoring the roughly 850,000 Virginian lives that will be put at risk from not receiving their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funds.
Statement from Carolyn Fiddler, DAGA Director of Communications:
“It is incredibly disturbing that MAGA Miyares would rather see families suffer than put his politics aside and join attorneys general in restoring aid that would help feed hundreds of thousands of people across the commonwealth. As the government shutdown drags on, Miyares continues to demonstrate that he’d rather do Trump’s bidding than protect Virginia families.
“Virginians need Jay Jones as their next attorney general; he will fight for them and stop at nothing to ensure families can put food on the table, because Virginians can trust Jones to put them first.”
