Bishop Backs Trump’s Extreme Choice for House Speaker
Washington, DC — Today, North Carolina Rep. Dan Bishop announced his support for fellow far-right Freedom Caucus member, Rep. Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House. Bishop, who was a ringleader in trying to force the government shutdown last month, is running for North Carolina Attorney General next year.
Statement from Emily Trifone, DAGA’s Deputy Communications Director:
“Dan Bishop has been driving extremism and chaos in Congress for years – and now he’s supporting a fellow far-right politician as House Speaker. Bishop is way too extreme to represent North Carolinians.”
Jordan is part of a group of extreme Republicans who tried to overturn the 2020 election. As CNN reported, Jordan “supported objections to electoral college results when Congress met to certify Joe Biden’s presidential win on January 6, 2021, the same day a pro-Trump mob attacked the Capitol seeking to overturn the election.”
“CNN reported in 2020 that six former Ohio State University wrestlers said they were present when Jordan heard or responded to sexual misconduct complaints about team doctor Richard Strauss.”
