Ford Victory Flips Nevada AG Seat Blue; Ford To Serve As First Black Attorney General in Nevada

Washington, D.C.— The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) released the following statement from Executive Director Sean Rankin congratulating Aaron Ford on winning the Nevada Attorney General’s seat. Ford beat Republican Wes Duncan to bring Democratic leadership back to the Nevada OAG. Through its aggressive recruitment for qualified candidates and the launch of the 1881 Initiative, DAGA assembled the most diverse class of attorney general candidates in history including Ford, who will be the first black Attorney General in Nevada.

“We applaud Aaron Ford and his campaign on winning the Nevada Attorney General race and for flipping the Nevada AG seat blue. Ford faced some of the ugliest and most blatantly racist attacks from RAGA during this campaign including RAGA going after his pre-teen son, and he still found the strength to fight for what he believes in: a Nevada that puts families first. Ford’s victory is a lesson for all AG races—people want an AG they know understands what they are going through and who they trust to fight for them.”

As part of the Democratic Attorneys General Association’s (DAGA) first-of-its-kind volunteer-to-voter education texting program, more than 980,000 Nevada voters were reached this cycle to inform them about the importance of AG Elections and to answer questions about Aaron Ford’s campaign. As the only voter outreach program texting specifically on Attorney General races, DAGA’s texting program educates voters about races in key states and gives voters an opportunity to share concerns they want Attorney General candidates to address. This cycle, DAGA connected with a milestone 11 million voters including voters in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Texas, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

In addition to the texting efforts, DAGA NV People’s Lawyer Project, an independent organization backed by the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA), released a television ad that focused on GOP candidate Wes Duncan’s disturbing connections to accused rapists, domestic abusers, and far-right extremists. The ad ran in key Nevada markets in the three weeks before Election Day.
