Intro 

Jose Javier Rodríguez is the Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Florida.   

Early Life and Education  

Jose Javier Rodríguez grew up in Miami, Florida. 

Rodríguez earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Affairs from Brown University. He then served in the Peace Corps in Senegal before attending and graduating from Harvard Law School.  

Career Highlights  

Rodríguez began his career as a legal aid attorney, representing blue collar workers whose wages were stolen or rights violated. He was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 2012 and was reelected in 2014. In 2016, he was elected to the Florida Senate, where he served as Vice Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. As a legislator, he advocated strongly for workers, consumers, and the environment, authoring and passing the most substantive climate change legislation in Florida history at the time.  

Most recently, Rodríguez served as U.S. Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training under President Biden, leading the federal agency at the center of the country’s public workforce system.  

Attorney General Priorities 

As Attorney General, Rodríguez will focus on the “three C’s”: Crime, Costs, and Corruption. He will crack down on fentanyl and protect Florida’s children and seniors from exploitation, deliver relief from skyrocketing insurance rates and electric bills, and root out corruption in government.  

Rodríguez is running because the Attorney General’s office should serve as an independent advocate for the people of Florida, not act as the Governor’s personal counsel.  

Personal Life 

Jose Javier Rodriguez is married to Sonia Succar Ferré, a Program Director for Clean Tech and Skilled Trades. They live in Miami with their two sons.
