Intro 

Kim Ahern is the Democratic nominee for Attorney General of Rhode Island. 

Early Life and Education 

Ahern earned her undergraduate degree in Public and Community Service Studies at Providence College. She then graduated from the Roger Williams School of Law, where she served as Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. 

She was then selected for a judicial law clerkship to the Honorable Maureen McKenna Goldberg of the Rhode Island Supreme Court. 

Career Highlights 

For nine years, Ahern served as a Special Assistant Attorney General under three Rhode Island AGs – Peter Neronha, Peter Kilmartin, and Patrick Lynch. While there, Ahern prosecuted over 1,000 cases relating to environmental crime and special victims.  

Ahern served as the AG’s representative on the Rhode Island Commission on Prejudice and Bias and worked closely with the office’s Civil Division, focusing on hate crimes. 

Ahern also served as senior counselor to Rhode Island’s past two governors where she was a trusted advisor on a range of policy and legal matters, including juvenile justice reform, reentry support, and housing. 

Attorney General Priorities 

Kim Ahern plans to use her breadth of experience to tangibly improve lives across her state. As AG, Ahern will prioritize public safety, protect the rights of all Rhode Islanders, and stand up for working families.  

Ahern has taken on bad actors in the past and will never shy away from a fight – even with the president.  

Personal Life 

Kim lives in Providence with her wife Jenna and their three young daughters.  

She’s an avid runner and triathlete – as well as a devoted Girl Scout leader.
