Intro
Nick Brown became the Attorney General of Washington in January 2025. He previously served as a JAG Officer in the U.S. Army, as General Counsel to Governor Jay Inslee, and later as U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington. Brown has dedicated himself to the state of Washington and is now equipped to protect its citizens as their lawyer.
Early Life and Education
Raised in Steilacoom, Washington, Brown has dedicated his life to serving Washington and his country. After graduating from Morehouse College and receiving his law degree from Harvard University, he began serving in the U.S. Army as a JAG Officer, where he fought to protect soldiers from fraud, worked to stop corporations from ripping off military families, and then went to Iraq, where he worked to defend our troops and our freedom. Nick earned the Bronze Star Medal in 2005.
Early Career
Upon his return to Washington, Brown became the Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington in 2007. In 2013, he became General Counsel to Governor Jay Inslee, where he combatted Trump’s Muslim ban and oversaw the governor’s work to end the death penalty in Washington. In 2021, he was nominated and appointed to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Washington, making him the first Black U.S. Attorney for the state.

Brown ran on building safe communities, strengthening the state’s economy, addressing climate change, respecting tribal nations, championing abortion rights and health care access, keeping commitments to our active-duty military and veterans, and fighting for a more just legal system.
Personal Life
Brown lives in Seattle with his two children, Brooklyn and Whitaker. Brown was a contestant on season two of the show ‘Survivor.’
