SEAT FLIPPED: DAGA Congratulates Iowa AG-Elect Nate Willems on Election Win

November 4, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC – The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) is excited to congratulate Iowa Attorney General-elect Nate Willems on his resounding win defeating Republican extremist AG Brenna Bird and officially flipping the AG seat from red to blue. This is a notable win as Iowans were suffering under Bird’s Trump-first agenda. Iowans can rest assured AG-elect Willems will always have their backs.

Across all entities, DAGA invested more than $4 million to flip this seat blue including investments on voter education, television ads, digital ads, polling, and message testing.

Statement from Lottie Ash, DAGA Political Director:
“We are thrilled to congratulate AG-elect Nate Willems and his entire campaign team on his victory against Brenna Bird. This was an extremely competitive race, and in the end, Iowans chose to elect Willems because they knew he would be the leader they’ve been missing. AG-elect Willems has never backed down from a fight to hold bad actors accountable, and his commitment to doing what’s right on behalf of every day Iowans shines through the actions he’s taken as a labor lawyer and former state legislator.

“As AG, we have no doubt he will hold bad actors who harm Iowans accountable and will work tirelessly to protect the environment and Iowa farmers. He will use the AG’s office to better the lives of Iowa families and communities, and we look forward to what AG-elect Willems will accomplish in his first term as AG.”
