Trump’s Second Longest Shutdown & MAGA Miyares Stays Silent as Virginians Suffer

October 27, 2025

Miyares has yet to speak up for the Virginia families and veterans affected by the shutdown

WASHINGTON, DC — As Trump’s government shutdown makes history as the second longest shutdown in U.S. history, it’s no surprise that Republican AG Jason Miyares has done absolutely nothing as Virginia’s families and veterans continue to suffer at the hands of the Trump administration. New reporting found the shutdown has put food assistance at risk for 830,000 Virginians, while food pantry demand has nearly doubled as furloughed federal employees struggle to feed their families. Additional reporting found that veterans are already seeing cuts to crucial services, treatments, and benefits they rely on to survive.

Statement from Carolyn Fiddler, DAGA’s Director of Communications:

“As usual, MAGA Miyares is putting his loyalty to Trump above protecting and advocating for those in the Commonwealth. Miyares would rather put Virginia’s most vulnerable populations in harm’s way than stand up to this lawless administration as its mass firings and healthcare cuts are set to impact nearly 350,000 people in the state.

“Virginians need Jay Jones as their next attorney general. Instead of aiding and abetting Trump’s political agenda, Jones will always put Virginians first.”
