Abortion Access in Midwest a Key Issue with Roe v. Wade Overturned
Washington, DC — Today, senior Biden-Harris Administration officials met with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. Vice President Harris later joined the meeting, and together they discussed how each office is responding to the Supreme Court’s Dobbs ruling and how the Administration and federal government can support ongoing efforts of state Attorneys General and other statewide elected officials to protect abortion access.
The meeting comes as U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, the former Democratic Attorney General of California, outlined the department’s actions on reproductive health care, including steps to increase access to medication abortion. Last week, Vice President Harris – herself the former California Attorney General – also met with seven other Democratic Attorneys General to discuss their planned efforts to protect abortion access.
Statement from Sean Rankin, President, Democratic Attorneys General Association:
“Democratic Attorneys General are on the frontlines of the national fight to protect abortion access in the states. Today’s meeting with the White House underscores the importance of our Democratic Attorneys General and why their public service is critical right now. We thank the White House for their continued engagement with our Democratic Attorneys General, and we are ready to work with them in the fight ahead.”
