DAGA Endorses Rochelle Garza in Texas AG Race After Runoff Win

After Nasty GOP Runoff, Out-of-Touch, Right-Wing Extremist AG Paxton to Face Garza in November

Washington, DC — The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) congratulates Rochelle Garza on her runoff win, securing the Democratic nomination in the Texas Attorney General race. Following her win, DAGA is proud to endorse Garza in the race and looks forward to beating Texas AG Ken Paxton in the general election this November. Paxton is a scandal-ridden right-wing extremist with a long list of legal troubles including an FBI investigation.

Rochelle Garza’s nomination also makes history as the first Latina Attorney General candidate nominated by Democrats in Texas, and would be the first woman and first Latina AG in Texas when she wins in November.

Statement from Sean Rankin, President, Democratic Attorneys General Association:

“Rochelle Garza is running a campaign to put Texas first, and stands in stark contrast to AG Ken Paxton. As Attorney General, Garza will be a voice for hard-working Texas families and hold the powerful accountable. As an attorney who took the Trump Administration to court, she knows first-hard what it’s like to fight for and defend justice and equality in the courtroom. Garza is also a proud supporter of abortion access; and with Roe on the line, she will defend people’s right to make their own health care decisions about their bodies. And she’s already taken on Ken Paxton and won. She will work to keep Texas kids and families safe by using her office to help address common sense solutions to our gun violence epidemic. From defending civil rights and immigrant rights to protecting consumers and people’s access to health care, Garza will be the People’s Lawyer for all Texans.

“Garza will face Ken Paxton, who has moved so far to the extreme fringe that he no longer even pretends to espouse the rule of law. His indictment and the FBI investigation demonstrate that he’s using the office to protect and serve himself — not the people of Texas, the state of Texas, or Texas’ business community. He’s the ringleader of the Republican AGs who sought to undermine the 2020 Presidential election and in doing so, undermined the Constitution, making him the champion of the ‘Big Lie.’ And now, he has played a leading role in creating a vigilante state in Texas, where neighbors spy on neighbors, starting with abortion access. It is to the point where Texans are being forced to flee their state for care or to carry pregnancies to term. Texans deserve someone who will be the People’s Lawyer and will fight for them — that’s why we will win in November with Rochelle Garza.”
