Watch: Mike Lee on Why He’s Running for Arkansas Attorney General
Washington, D.C.—On the heels of Tuesday’s primary, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) endorsed Mike Lee for Arkansas Attorney General today. Lee is a Navy veteran with nearly 40 years of legal experience including serving as a compliance officer in the compliance, regulatory, and enforcement division (CRE) for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission focusing on toy safety and protecting kids.
“There is no doubt that Mike Lee is the better choice for Arkansas Attorney General,” said Sean Rankin, Executive Director of the Democratic Attorneys General Association. “He has spent his career fighting for families and keeping children safe—and as Attorney General in Arkansas, Mike Lee will put the families of Arkansas above political maneuvering.”
In November, Lee will face Republican incumbent Leslie Rutledge, who is often under fire for her inability do her job. Most recently, Rutledge has faced criticism over her failure to approve ballot initiatives on issues critically important to the people of Arkansas like raising the minimum wage and legalization of marijuana.
“Leslie Rutledge on the other hand plays politics with her office and looks more to personal advancement than the work at hand,” continued Rankin. “Campaigns are about choices, and this year, Arkansas has the opportunity to go in a new direction with Mike Lee—one that puts the office of the Attorney General back on track in the hands of a good steward.”
The Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) provides political and policy support to Democratic Attorneys General and candidates in their mission to protect civil rights, promote progress and diversity, fight corruption, and ensure the law is applied fairly for all of those that live and work in America. Democratic Attorneys General play a crucial role in protecting our democracy as part of our country’s system of checks and balances. As a Committee, we are building a platform to highlight their successes and to extend their reach as they work to serve as the People’s Lawyers. From bringing those outside of the political arena into the fold through partnerships with General Assembly to driving the 1881 Initiative to elect more Democratic women to the office of Attorney General with Emerge America, DAGA continues to prioritize innovation, data, communication, and relationship building as key elements to providing political and policy support to Democratic State Attorneys General and candidates.
