Democratic AGs are the backbone of the Democratic party.  As the most diverse coalition of Democratic AGs in history, they continue to serve as the most effective elected leaders protecting our democracy. Former California AG and current U.S. Senator Kamala Harris’ selection as the Vice Presidential nominee further underscores the importance of the Dem AG coalition and the critical role these leaders play in the future of our country.  In June, all 23 elected Democratic AGs came together to endorse Joe Biden for President. With the Biden-Harris ticket, Democrats are on the path to big wins up and down the ticket.

Throughout the DNC Convention week, Democratic AGs will be participating in a number of events focused on the emerging issues this election. All events noted below are listed on the Democratic National Convention Coalitions & Partner Organizations: Schedule of Events.

BACKGROUND: Without Democratic AGs, the country would look and feel very different four years into a Trump presidency. The panel will highlight the Dem AG victories taking on Trump and protecting the Obama-Biden legacy including protecting DACA, stopping the citizenship question from appearing on the 2020 Census, the battle to protect health care, and countless other wins. The panel will also discuss Dem AG leadership on COVID-19 and healthcare, immigration, reproductive rights, education, and criminal justice reform.

Together, Dem AGs have filed more than 100 lawsuits against the Trump administration attacks on the Obama-Biden legacy with an 80% success rate in court. They defended the DACA program at the U.S. Supreme Court, kept a discriminatory citizenship question off the 2020 Census, defeated Trump’s Muslim Ban (twice), and have taken more than 300 major actions to protect the environment and combat climate change. They are fighting to save the Affordable Care Act from GOP attacks, protecting reproductive rights, safeguarding worker protections, and standing up for our most vulnerable communities.

For too long, Democratic AGs flew under-the-radar in the broader policy and political conversations happening at the state and national level. In 2016, with the relaunch of the Democratic Attorneys General Association, there was a sea change in attention paid to this critical office.

  • Today Democratic AGs are FRONT AND CENTER when it comes to our party and our current political and policy landscape.
  • Since 2016, Democrats AGs won in record numbers in states across the country. Democratic AGS won SEVEN battleground races including two states carried by Trump in 2016.
  • In 2018, Democratic AGs elected the most diverse coalition of state AGs in history.
  • Democratic AGs represent 25 states, a majority of the US population, and states responsible for a majority of GDP.

The cliff notes version: Democrats know how to beat Trump in court and at the ballot box.
