New AJC Poll Shows Chris Carr Out of Touch with Georgians

January 31, 2022

Georgians Oppose Permit-less Gun Carry,Repeal of Roe v. Wade

Washington, DC — A new poll from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution found that nearly 7 in 10 Georgia voters oppose “legislation to allow people to carry concealed weapons without a license, and more than two-thirds oppose overturning the decades-old U.S. Supreme Court decision that guaranteed the right to an abortion.”

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, who is in a very competitive race this year, both supports permit-less gun carry and wants to see abortion access restricted. In 2017, AG Carr signed onto a letter with other Republican AGs in support of the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 that would have forced states with stricter gun laws to honor out-of-state concealed-carry permits from states with less restrictive requirements. AG Carr is also one of several Republican AGs who has called on the Supreme Court to uphold dangerous laws that would restrict abortion access.

Statement from Geoff Burgan, Communications Director, Democratic Attorneys General Association:“This AJC poll has big red warning lights for Chris Carr. He’s out of touch with Georgians on social issues, and his far-right positions – all to cater to Donald Trump’s base – are going to cost him in November.”
