NEW: DAGA Outraises RAGA with Record-Breaking 2022 Fundraising Number

January 31, 2023

Outpouring of Support over Outrageous Dobbs Decision Powered AGs, DAGA to Key Wins in 2022

Washington, DC — Today, the Democratic Attorneys General Association (DAGA) announced record-breaking fundraising in 2022: $25.5 million across all platforms, which was more than the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) raised last year. DAGA’s 2022 haul is a 56% increase over its 2018 fundraising numbers in the last midterm cycle.

DAGA successfully met its goal of raising over $25 million across all entities set following the leak of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision that ultimately overturned Roe v. Wade. DAGA invested millions on paid media and services in support of incumbent Democratic AGs and endorsed candidates who ran on their efforts and plans to protect and defend abortion access. Democratic AGs will continue to be on the frontlines of the legal fight for reproductive rights following their huge victories last year.

As reported exclusively in POLITICO Influence: “DAGA slightly outraised its Republican counterpart, the Republican Attorneys General Association, which took in $24.8 million in 2022 and typically has the upper hand in fundraising. But POLITICO’s disclosure of the draft abortion ruling last year, followed by the ruling itself in June, put state attorneys general candidates on the frontlines of abortion access across the country, drove hordes of cash toward Democratic political groups in particular in the immediate aftermath.”

POLITICO continued: “The increase in attention from donors aligns with the steadily expanding clout of state attorneys general in recent years, as state AGs across the board have taken an outsize role in investigations touching antitrust, tech, finance, consumer protection, health care and more…”

Following its success in 2022 — including flipping two seats in Arizona and Vermont and successfully defending its 2018 flips in Colorado, Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin — DAGA has now won 16 out of 28 competitive races against the Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) dating back to 2016.

Statement from Sean Rankin, President, DAGA:

“DAGA is proud of our record-breaking work this past cycle. Americans showed up for Democratic AGs across the country because they know their commitment to issues that matter. Having more Democratic AGs in office means more Americans having a People’s Lawyer for all — someone who will fight for reproductive health care access, protect the environment, keep families and communities safe, and defend against attacks on democracy. As an organization, we’ve seen continued electoral success in the most recent election cycles and we look forward to building on this success in the 2023 and 2024 cycles and beyond. I want to thank everyone — our staff, donors, partners, and our Democratic AGs for supporting us in this work and helping to grow our room of AGs.”
