GOP AGs and Candidates Continue Moving Far-Right as 2022 Cycle Gets Underway

Washington, DC — Over the weekend, Arizona GOP candidate Rodney Glassman held a fundraiser with U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ). Gosar is infamous for being one of the most far-right, extreme, controversial figures in Congress, and he is closely allied with a white nationalist.

As The Arizona Republic reports, “Politics can make for strange bedfellows. In Arizona’s attorney general race, that has come in the form of Jewish candidate Rodney Glassman and Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz, who has aligned himself with an outspoken antisemite.” They go on to report, “Gosar has defended Nick Fuentes, whom both the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center described as a white nationalist who espouses anti-Jewish rhetoric. This includes denying the Holocaust occurred — in one video he compares Jews killed at concentration camps to cookies baking in ovens.”

“Glassman’s embrace of Gosar in light of the congressman’s actions has raised concerns among some members of the Jewish community,” reports The Republic. “‘It is most disconcerting to see Mr. Glassman, a pillar of the Jewish community, accepting political support from a sitting member of Congress associated with Nicholas Fuentes who the Anti-Defamation League describes as a white supremacist leader and organizer,’ Civia Tamarkin, president of the Arizona section of National Council of Jewish Women, told The Republic.”

Rep. Gosar has also been closely aligned with the organizers of the January 6th insurrection, whom he had planning meetings with leading up to that day.

And when Glassman was asked about Gosar’s endorsement, he refused to answer for Gosar’s white nationalist ties. We’ve already seen GOP AG candidates fight for the far-right in states like Texas and Michigan, it looks like Arizona is next.
