Intro
Dan Rayfield became the Attorney General of Oregon in December 2024. He previously served as a state representative and later as Speaker of the Oregon House. AG Rayfield has spent much of his career fighting for Oregonians and is continuing that fight as the state’s lawyer.
Early Life and Education
AG Rayfield attended Western Oregon University and then earned his law degree from Willamette University College of Law. After graduating, Rayfield began his legal career with the law firm of Weatherford Thompson. While at Weatherford Thompson, he represented several individuals who were falsely arrested by a local police officer. This case made statewide news and eventually led to the officer’s resignation. In 2009, he joined Nelson & MacNeil and became a partner in 2013. Rayfield specializes in civil rights cases and has successfully handled civil rights cases against numerous counties, cities, and the state of Oregon. He has also served as a coach attorney for the OSU Mock Trial Team, a former Linn County Peer Court Judge, and past president of the Linn-Benton Bar Association.
Career Highlights
In 2015, AG Rayfield was elected as the state representative for Oregon House District 16. In 2022, he was elected by his colleagues to serve as Speaker of the House. Over that time, he helped lead the way on issues including ensuring a high-quality education for Oregon children, access to affordable and reliable healthcare, and making sure families can earn a living wage while also nurturing innovation and supporting Oregon’s small businesses and making our public safety system more effective and accountable.
Attorney General Accomplishments
During his time as Attorney General, Dan Rayfield has secured an over $9 million settlement with two pharmaceutical giants for inflating prices, saved consumers hundreds of thousands of dollars in his first months in office, secured a victory in the battle against inflated ticket prices, and led a coalition of 12 attorneys general in suing the Trump administration in the U.S. Court of International Trade for its illegal and unconstitutional imposition of tariffs on virtually all goods imported into the United States.
Personal Life
AG Rayfield lives in Corvallis with his wife Amanda and their son. He also plays tuba in a polka band called the Polkaticians.
