Early Life and Education
Jay Jones has long been a champion of justice and a dedicated public servant. A lifelong resident of Norfolk, Jones traces his family’s history in the city back to the early 20th century. Jones completed his undergraduate studies at the College of William and Mary, and earned his law degree from the University of Virginia.
Career Highlights
Jones served as Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. While there, he was a member of the Office of Consumer Protection. Jones was first elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2017, where he served until 2021. As an accomplished litigator, Jones has since led the Virginia NAACP’s fight against the Youngkin administration to protect voting rights. He also served as a member of the Virginia Planned Parenthood board.
Personal Life
Jones lives in Norfolk with his wife, Mavis, and their two young sons. Jones and his wife are members of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception. Jones’s father, Jerrauld C. Jones, was one of the few Virginians to serve in all three branches of state government.
